The Amazon Kindle e-book Reader Is Awesome!

I've had the Amazon Kindle for some time now, and own and have read many dozens of e-books (books in electronic form) on it. It's about the size of a standard paperback novel, and a bit lighter, and allows you to carry tons of books and information with you at all times. And if you suddenly realize you just need a book you've just heard about, you can download it from Amazon using its free wireless download mechanism. And, of course, e-books purchased for the Kindle from Amazon will be a lot cheaper than the traditional paper-based books.

The e-paper technology that it uses is also very easy on the eyes - looking at it, it's hard to remember it's not real paper. It is nothing like other e-book readers that will have you straining your eyes against a glossy LCD screen. And flipping through pages is just as easy, if not more so (because it's more precise) than with a real book. And don't forget one of the major benefits of e-books - they're fully indexed and you can search quickly for certain words and phrases,  jump immediately to certain pages, and easily bookmark favourite pages. It will also remember the last page you were reading - no more need for carrying around bookmarks, or making creases, or using paper clips (my favoured method for real books, because it allows me to zero in on the exact line I was next to read). And don't worry about it running out of power - e-paper is very energy efficient, and you may not have to recharge for 12-24 hours if you are continuously reading (it doesn't lose power if you're not reading, or rather, if you're not actively changing pages).

I wrote a more complete review of the Amazon Kindle on Associated Content. Check it out:

My First Blog Entry

It's late, but I've just set up this blog, and I suppose I'm meant to write something here.

Expect the absurd. Every single day that I'm alive, I'm never disappointed!
